A review of 2021 games through the eyes of employees making gaming equipment.

Yes, 2021 is already slowly behind us. And so, in addition to the fact that most of our time is taken up by working on gaming equipment (after all, we create gaming as we would like to have it ourselves), we share a passion for games in our spare time. And of course, we play... day and night. We have our favorite games, but at the same time we are eager to get new ones. And those in 2021 were several that we were eager to play. We invite you to read our opinion on the games played by MODECOM Volcano employees that premiered in 2021.

Forza Horizon 5.

Finally... After the great Forza Horizon 4 comes its successor, which is the fifth part of the sensational racer... Great map, super locations (including a race on a volcano 😊), to a mass of different cars and really forward fun. In this game you feel the adrenaline flowing from the thrilling races, as well as total chillout while driving freely. In addition to the dynamic races and the possibility of playing online with friends or the computer, there is total freedom of configuration of your car. Even changing the tire pressure affects the driving model, and the probably infinite possibility of car configuration (rims, engine power, body paint, etc.) makes it possible to spend hours in the configurator... And it's as much fun as taking your favorite car to the track. The icing on the cake is also the option to spend money, e.g. to buy real estate, or to watch the Horizon Wheel draw - the wheel of fortune in which you can win cool prizes like legendary cars or clothes. On the downside? Where is the Alfa Romeo I ask!

Football Manager 2022.

Gra-excel for fans of what is probably the only football team manager simulator available on the market. We realize that it's a niche game, but we remember Football Manager back in the days when it was called Championship Manager. So we have been playing it for a long time. Honestly? This game has not aged. But has it changed compared to the FM2021 version? In our opinion, no. It's still a good game capable of taking days and months out of your life, but it lacks a revolution. On the other hand, it's worth playing if only because of the updated team compositions. However, there's nothing in it that we didn't see in last year's edition. Nevertheless, for fans of a good football manager, the game is still a 10/10. The only question is - is it really that good, or is that why we rate it so highly, because there is no worthy competitor?

Age of Empires IV.

"wololo"... Yes, we played years ago the great second part of AOE. Now it's the turn of the even better fourth part. The game is complete, it is not missing anything. What's more, thanks to the movie inserts it is really sensational. A great game for lovers of strategy and old AOE2. Many interesting solutions (such as ambushes in the forest), plus collecting resources, expanding the settlement, creating units... The game can draw you in like few others. There is also more strategy in it. Here you can already combine - there are hills of terrain, which will be gladly appreciated by units of archers or crossbowmen. Plus the previously mentioned ambushes in the forest. It is now possible to make cool combinations on how to defeat the opponent without having to play on the principle of "I will make more units than the opponent and flood him with troops". What's more? Siege machines, building fortifications, spacing units, using special traits of commanders - little tidbits that add spice to the whole gameplay. In addition, great respect for the aforementioned film inserts. If narration was conducted in such a way during history lessons, we would absorb knowledge like a sponge with water.

12 minutes.

But what a strange game this is. Normally Groundhog Day, although actually more of a "12 minutes" groundhog. The idea is that the day resets after 12 minutes of playing. We don't want to spoil what the game is about, because the sheer sweetness comes from discovering more parts of a rather convoluted story. Suffice it to say that the story is scary, but also fascinating at the same time. The game is very short, we went through it in just a few hours. Only that after passing it, it turned out that this was only one possibility from its completion.... The game gives you to think, it can surprise you, it requires out-of-the-box thinking. You will make wrong decisions, often fatal consequences, but hey - it's nothing, because the day resets after 12 minutes 😉.

Diablo 2 Resurrected.

New or old? It was with great pleasure that we returned to Diablo II. It is exactly as we remembered it from years ago. Everything just looks prettier, better. But is it a better game than Diablo III? In our opinion, no. You can already see the outdated mechanics, on top of that Diablo II we have gone through many times and the story is just familiar to us. There is nothing new. On the plus side? Legendary Loot falls out very rarely - collecting a good set is really hard. But games used to be like that, you have to farm and farm until the clade or boots you are looking for fall out. Do we regret the money we spent on this remaster? Absolutely not, because the game is still a ton of fun. It is downright iconic. And it is very enjoyable to play. But did we need Diablo II Remaster more than the new Diablo? We have the impression that this remaster is a bit of a "plugged hole" in anticipation of Diablo IV.

Microsoft Flight Simulator.

It is difficult to write anything about this game. Is it good? Yes. It is even very good. However, the problem with it is like with fish dishes. There are people who don't eat fish or seafood because they prefer pork chops. Even though the prepared fish will be the best in the world - some won't even touch it. And we have a feeling that the same is true of Microsoft Flight Simulator. This game is not for everyone, but it is delectable. We played it briefly because it's a terrible time eater, but flying over your home city and looking out where you live is a lot of fun. So is flying over other wonderful locations around the world. A game only for fans of this type of game. Didn't stick around long in installed games.

Humankind.

Here is the eagerly awaited slayer of Civilization. But is it for sure? We played Civilization from its first part sitting with a dictionary in hand to figure out what it was all about. Those were the days of the Amiga, and if memory serves us correctly, the first part of Civilization was on four 3.5-inch floppy disks. Then there was a great second part, the third we prefer not to talk about, and then a sensational IV, an even better V and a very good VI. Humankind was supposed to challenge and stand up to the legends. But it failed. Don't get us wrong - it's not a bad game, but it's far from Civilization. Humankind will probably be appreciated by those who have only recently played this type of game. However, for old veterans who remember Civilization I, all this Humankind will just be a correct average. We went through it a few times and it flew off the disk. It won't be coming back.
